Mom’s Spaghetti

All Eminem refrences and memes aside, my mom’s spaghetti was always the pinnacle of comfort food. What beats a warm, hearty bowl of spaghetti? As an added bonus my mom’s recipe is simple, cheap, and jumbo-sized enough to feed a family of four for days. For a recipe that will keep you feeling warm and fuzzy and won’t fail you even when your palms are sweaty look no further.

  • 1 yellow onion, diced
  • 8 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup sherry
  • 1 28 oz can diced tomatoes
  • 2 28 oz cans crusged tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp dried oregano
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tbsp oil

In a large stock pot heat the oil over medium-high heat. Add the onion and saute until it becomes translucent, about five to seven minutes. Add the garlic and cook until fragrant, about one minute. Add the sherry and cook until the liquid has reduced by half, about two to three minutes. Add the canned tomatoes, sugar, tomato paste, and oregano. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for one hour. Season to taste and always remember, spaghetti tastes better the next day.

  1. I’m about to post my mom’s spaghetti recipe I haven’t made in probably 15 years, but I want to make it again soon and see if it’s as good as I remember it. I’ve had many a spaghetti since the last time I’ve eaten it!
